JOE DUBUQUE 'THE CHAMP' WRESTLING CLINIC

Impact Wrestling Academy has a strong reputation within the wrestling community of being able to teach and help its wrestlers reach their goals.  It is my pleasure to present our featured guest Joe Dubuque “THE CHAMP” who will be hosting a one day clinic in Central Virginia.  
 
Joe Dubuque was a 2x New Jersey State Champion while wrestling for Glenn Ridge High School.   Dubuque capped his scholastic career by being crowned the 119-pound champion at the 2001 NHSCA Senior National tournament.  To achieve this feat, the Bloomfield native had to best a field that included such names as: Travis Lee (Cornell’s 2x NCAA Champion), Nate Gallick (2006 NCAA National Champion at 141-pounds), 3x Michigan State All-American Nick Simmons, and 2005 NCAA Runner-up at 133 pounds, Edinboro University’s Shawn Bunch.  
 
Not content to rest on his laurels, Joe continued his career at Indiana University, under the tutelage of a pair former Iowa greats, Duane Goldman and Mike Mena.  During his reign in Bloomington, Dubuque built quite a resume, amassing a record of 114-18 on his way toward becoming a 3x All-American, as well as only the 2nd Hoosier to win two National titles.

Two-time national champion and former IU grappler, Joe Dubuque, is returning to Bloomington for the 2009-10 season as an assistant coach for the Hoosier wrestling program. Dubuque spent the last three years as an assistant at Hofstra University.

"We are very excited to have Joe rejoin us at IU," said Head Coach Duane Goldman. "He is the one of the most decorated athletes to ever represent IU. To have him here as a coach is tremendous for our staff, as well as our student-athletes. Joe brought so much to us as an athlete;

I am looking forward to him being in the coaching seat." 
This past season, Dubuque helped Hofstra to a 27th-place showing at the NCAA Championships. Now back at IU, he joins his former teammate Pat DeGain as Indiana's two assistant coaches.

While a Hoosier, Dubuque was a three-time NCAA All-American who captured national titles at 125 pounds in 2005 and 2006, posted an overall record of 114-18, including a 69-6 dual mark and=2 0a 19-6 Big Ten record in four years at Indiana University.

As a senior during the 2005-06 season he recorded a 28-1 mark, including a 7-1 record against ranked opponents, and defeated three ranked opponents at the NCAA Championships en route to the 125-pound crown. Dubuque became just the second Hoosier in Indiana history to capture two national titles and the first Hoosier to register back-to-back NCAA crowns.

In 2004-05 Dubuque placed third in the Big 10 Championships and then defeated three ranked opponents on his march to claim the 125-pound title at the national championships. He became the first Hoosier to appear in a NCAA final since Roger Chandler did so in 1997, and the first IU grappler to claim a national championship since Brian Dolph captured the 150-pound title in 1990. He finished the year with a 29-3 overall record, an 18-1 slate in duals, a 6-1 mark in the Big Ten and a 12-2 mark against ranked opponents.

A year earlier Dubuque qualified for his first NCAA appearance with a fourth-place finish at the Big 10 Championships and then went on to earn All-America honors with an eighth-place showing at the NCAA Championships. He finished the year with a 34-9 overall record, a 21-2 dual mark and captured the 125-pound title at the Northern Iowa Open.

ESP PROGRAMS

Elkin Sports Performance will offer sport performance training, geared to the scholastic athlete ranging from 7 years old to 18 years old.  This training will include a speed, agility and strength training components that are age appropriate. These groups will be divided by ages 7-10, 11-14 and 15-18 years old. The group sizes will be limited to ensure advanced coaching and supervision in each group.

ESP will also offer general fitness training geared to men and women from 18 years old and above. Training will be offered in small group training and personal training. ESP will offer a place for clients to reach their goals in an environment that offers values such as hard work, discipline, desire, and dedication. These values are what ESP believes take either an athlete or a business person to the next level of success.

ESP’s schedule is different from other training facilities. Our groups will come in at set times for their particular age group. This allows the athlete a chance to train with athletes their age. Group training also gives the coach to implement a program that is specific to the age of the athlete.

ESP group size will be limited to 12 athletes for the 7-10 and 11-14 year old group and 16 for the 15-18 year old group. Our goal is to give everyone who joins and trains in the ESP program the best chance to maximize their individual potential.

·         7-10 year olds: Foundational program focuses on building core strength, body awareness, speed technique and agility training. Monday – Friday 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm, Saturday 8:00 am – 9:00 am

·         11-14 year olds:  Developmental program introduces proper technique in weight lifting as well as speed and agility training. Monday – Friday 6:00 pm – 7:15 pm, Saturday 9:00 am – 10:15 am

·         15-18 year olds: High school program brings in formal weight training protocols, speed technique and full agility training. Monday – Friday 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm, Monday through Thursday 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm, Saturday 10:00 am – 11:30 pm

·         Men’s and Women’s Adult Training: Dynamic workouts for the adult who strives to be at the pinnacle of his or her health and conditioning. Monday – Friday 6:00 am – 7:00 am, 7:00 am – 8:00 am, Tuesday and Thursday 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm, Women’s Groups: Monday – Friday 9:30 am – 10:30 am

·         Full Team Training: This program trains a full team as one, while building team chemistry as each athlete is getting stronger, faster and more agile. Please call for details.
