WRESTLER OF THE YEAR
Tyler Spangler, St. Christopher's
St. Christopher's 119-pound machine started his junior season with a 46-match win streak. Always good on his feet, 
Spangler improved his mat work this season and blew through Virginia competition. His only losses came in the final 
of the St. Albans tournament and en route to an eighth place finish at Prep Nationals. Spangler won the Richmond 
Invitational, the Tiger Holiday Classic, the Prep League tournament and the Virginia Independent School Athletic 
Association tournament. He also finished eighth and earned All American honors last summer in Greco at the Cadet 
Nationals in Fargo.

COACH OF THE YEAR
Chris Persing, Thomas Dale
This is the first class of seniors from an entirely Persing-led team and the first Central Region title for Thomas
 Dale since 1990. After 10 seasons as an assistant, Persing took over the Thomas Dale team four years ago. With 
 strong performances from freshmen all the way through the senior class, Thomas Dale won a region championship 
 without a champion. The Knights also went 31-2 in dual matches and qualified nine wrestlers for the Group AAA 
 tournament.
